Like many people, we had some storm damage from the high winds at the end of October. The geodesic domes held up perfectly – no damage whatsoever. Geodesic domes are designed to withstand high winds and snow loading – some of the original structures were build for the South Pole’s extreme conditions. We did loose power for three days which mucked us around a bit – but overall we can’t complain.
What did do badly were our pine trees. As you drive up the entrance drive there were about 200 pine trees to your left – but now only half of them are standing. The rest either uprooted or split in the high winds. As a result the trees that remain are unsafe, so we have a project on our hands to safely remove the entire block of trees. We are mulling replanting options!
Although a shame, no one was hurt and the house and domes are fine – so it’s just one of those things. The chickens had an awful lot of branches on top of their home and run, but they had the sense to hide away during the high winds and have continued to lay us lovely fresh eggs regardless of the weather!
